Where are important documents kept?
The short answer
Most households keep important documents at home in a drawer or a fireproof box, and some use a bank safe deposit box or a private vault. What a given document has to survive decides which of those is enough.
The longer answer
A domestic fireproof box is rated for a short period at a moderate temperature, and two people can carry it out of a house. It is genuinely useful for things you need often. It is not designed for the one document you cannot replace. Ask what a specific paper has to survive: a fire, a hurricane, a flood, a burglary, a move, a separation, or thirty years of nobody thinking about it.
